Description

This vintage Tortolani St. George & the Dragon brooch dates to the mid-century era (circa 1950s–1960s) and features a dramatic, storybook scene rendered in richly textured gold-tone metal. The design depicts St. George on horseback, spear raised, as he battles a curled, stylized dragon beneath him. The figures are sculptural and dimensional, with fine etched detailing throughout—notice the patterned texture on the horse, the flowing tail and mane, and the dragon’s looping body that frames the lower portion of the piece.

Clear rhinestone accents add eye-catching sparkle, set along the horse’s body and tack as well as scattered on the dragon for extra brilliance. The reverse shows the brooch is signed “Tortolani,” and it is fitted with a classic pin-back closure typical of the period.

Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with light age-appropriate wear to the finish; the pin and clasp appear intact and functional, and the rhinestones present well (please see photos for detail).

Measurements are approximately 1.8 inches long by 1.8 inches wide. This is a standout statement brooch—perfect for collectors of Tortolani jewelry, medieval motif pieces, or anyone who loves bold mid-century figural designs with a bit of shimmer.
