Description

This exquisite early Rosenthal porcelain teacup and saucer, dating to circa 1891–1900, is beautifully decorated with a hand-painted lilac motif and finished with crisp, refined gilding. The cup is made from exceptionally fine porcelain, with a delicate, almost translucent look and a graceful, softly fluted form that feels light and elegant in the hand.

What makes this example especially special is the subtle coloring of the porcelain itself: the cup’s luminous white ground gently fades to a pale peach tone as it approaches the scalloped foot, creating a warm, understated ombré effect that complements the floral decoration. Lilac blossoms and trailing sprigs are painted around the upper portion of the cup in soft violet tones, while a slender gold rim and gilt highlights on the curving handle add a polished finishing touch. The matching saucer repeats the lilac sprays around the well and is likewise edged in gold, tying the set together beautifully.

Cup dimensions: approx. 3" tall x 2.9" wide (rim diameter).
Saucer dimensions: approx. 5.25" wide (diameter).
Condition: Excellent antique condition, with almost no wear noted; the gilding presents very cleanly and the surfaces remain bright and well preserved.
