The first prestigious service produced by the Royal Manufactory after it aquired its 'royal' status, the A La Reine service was issued in 1784, and pieces of it can be found today in the collections of the world's greatest museums, including the Adrien Ducouche National Museum in Limoges. Its floral decoration is characteristic of the latter half of the 18th century, and the studied spontaneity of the bouquets and swathes of flowers was originally designed to conceal any slight imperfections in the porcelain caused by wood firing.
A pattern of delicate plant arabesques, called “vermiculé”, decorates the cabaret and dessert plates, while in the centre, wild animals from the La Ménagerie fabric are represented in grisaille, transporting us to the royal menageries of the 19th century.
