The first prestigious service produced by the Royal Manufactory after it aquired its 'royal' status, the A La Reine service was issued in 1784, and pieces of it can be found today in the collections of the world's greatest museums, including the Adrien Ducouche National Museum in Limoges. Its floral decoration is characteristic of the latter half of the 18th century, and the studied spontaneity of the bouquets and swathes of flowers was originally designed to conceal any slight imperfections in the porcelain caused by wood firing.
The Annabelle vase offers a pattern in the great tradition of Limoges porcelain, highlighting cobalt blue, gold and white. These flowers delicately drawn with poetry on a deep blue background transport us to the exotic gardens of the Côte d'Azur bordering the Mediterranean which were all the rage in the 1920s. The jet set liked to go there to discover rare flowers while looking for a little freshness.
